The brakes failed on Jerry Seinfeld's vintage 1967 Fiat BTM at 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2008. Seinfeld instinctively tried his emergency brake which also failed leaving him no option but to swerve to keep his car from entering an intersection. Police chief Todd Sarris reports, "The two-door 1967 Fiat BTM flipped over before coming to a halt just yards from the highway." He went on to say that "Seinfeld's maneuver probably avoided a very serious accident." Seinfeld miraculously walked away unhurt. Seinfeld made this statement about his accident, "Because I know there are kids out there, I want to make sure they all know that driving without braking is not something I recommend, unless you have professional clown training or a comedy background, as I do. It is not something I plan to make a habit."
